Most violent encounters happen in extremely close proximity, giving the attacker the advantage of closing distance rapidly before you can draw your firearm or knife. Do you know what to do when faced with an attacker in close proximity? How quickly and effectively can you fend off the attack, create space and defend yourself?
Join Silver Eagle Group and a special guest instructor from AMOK!® on how to fend off a knife attack and best use your pistol in a close quarters situation. Every second counts!
SEG has arranged for Tom Sotis, a master of edged weapons, defensive fighting and disarming techniques, to teach you the skills needed to defend yourself utilizing your pistol and edged weapon in a safe, effective manner while facing an attacker. This 2-day course will provide a comprehensive foundation and leave you feeling confident.
Students will take part in low to moderate physical activity as they practice the techniques. You don’t need to have martial arts experience or be a weapons master to take this course. It has been designed with all skill and physical fitness levels in mind.
December 13 and 14th 10AM-2PM – Near Threat Defense
Accessing During Changing Attacks
During this course you will be taught the framework of ALL weapon vs. weapon fighting. You will improve your performance in accessing your knife or pistol while under committed attack, by learning 3 variations of 2 actions which form the basis for all weapon-to-weapon fighting making it forever “simple” to you no matter how chaotic and complex the situation gets. These core skills are the most vital actions to develop for close quarters fighting.
Merging Pistol & Knife Tactics
Learn to utilize your pistol, using knife-based-actions, as a blunt instrument to parry and strike, and how to shoot without exchanging shots for stabs under chaotic frenzied attacks. This is exciting gun-work! If you are not a gun enthusiast you will still walk away with a comprehensive understanding of how to Identify Attacks, Counter, Target, and Defend.
Tom will teach you the proper footwork, weapons manipulation, disarming techniques, and self-defense tactics needed to repel an attack, create space and finish the fight. This is the most sophisticated (simple but versatile and adaptable) presentation of personal fighting tactics anywhere.
About the Instructor
Tom Sotis started training in 1969 and with an accomplished background in a wide variety of martial arts and combatives methods. In 1992, Tom founded the organization that has evolved into present-day AMOK!® for the purpose of providing tactically-sound and court-defensible self-protection training. In addition to training numerous US and Foreign Government and Military teams, Tom has taught over 1000 edged weapon workshops in 20 countries (more than any other knife instructor in the world) and presents the most in-depth fusion of Knife-work and Close Quarters Pistol-work.
Training and Gear
1) We provide Nok Safety Trainers for the workshop, and color Certificates for participants to keep.
2) We suggest you bring your own mouth guard and eye protection designed to absorb light contact (shooting glasses are not good for this – look for something that contour-fits your face to spread impact)
3) Bring a notebook and pens. No photos, videos, or recording devices of any kind are permitted.
4) Optional – wear your holster, spare mags, and training gun
5) No live blades or ammunition permitted in the training area.
