Having a plan\, knowing what you are protecting and what your life is worth are key responsibilities. But\, when confronted\, when all doesn’t go according to plan\, how will you react? As you have chosen to carry a firearm to protect yourself and your loved ones\, your introduction to stress brought on by physical violence shouldn’t be during a real-life encounter. To that end\, SEG has created a scenario-based course designed around confrontation management\, awareness and avoidance. \nThis course is scenario-driven\, putting the student’s situational awareness and reactions to the test in a real-world environment. The scenarios are designed to allow the student to be tested in various settings\, taking the confrontation through the full cycle from recognition and avoidance to reaction and completion. We will start by covering recognizing and identifying potential danger\, avoidance\, control techniques\, and the force continuum\, before putting the student through muggings\, carjacking\, attacks\, and general confrontation scenarios. \nDuring the scenarios\, the student will be expected to detect and avoid situations when possible or apply the appropriate amount of force to achieve the desired end result of stopping the threat\, up to and including the use of deadly force. By the end of the course\, the student should recognize\, and later\, articulate if and how their attacker presented the capability\, intent\, and opportunity to cause death or great bodily harm\, and justify the actions they took in response to the perceived threat. Knowing when and how to manage unknown or unwanted contact will become the difference between drawing your firearm before it is necessary or drawing after it is too late. \nConcealed Carry Live is for anyone who wants to test their skills\, learn from their mistakes and be more self-assured when carrying concealed. \nAll training will be done with SIRT laser training pistols. YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO SHOW A VALID FORM OF CITIZENSHIP ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS ** \nThe Concealed Carry Essentials course introduces the student to practical techniques for self-defense shooting. This course is for the individual that has completed introductory training for their concealed handgun permit and now desires to become proficient and confident while carrying a concealed handgun. With the fundamentals of marksmanship as the basis for everything taught\, the student will develop consistency across each core competency to become an effective and efficient shooter. \nMany of the techniques that are introduced will be new to the student\, but each is introduced in a progressive\, building block approach. The learning process starts in the classroom covering equipment and considerations for effective carry\, followed by lecture on proper sight management\, the draw and the application of the fundamentals for defensive shooting. After practical application and dry fire training\, we transition to the range to build on prior marksmanship training\, develop new skills\, push through old limitations and introduce the student to the dynamics of concealed carry. The ultimate goal is to build functional\, defensive handgun skills built on the foundation of the shooting fundamentals\, while introducing the student to problem solving in a dynamic environment. \nAreas Covered: \n\nEquipment considerations – what is available and how to derive the most benefit from your equipment.\nDrawing from concealment – effective and efficient draw stroke.\nSight management – understanding how to effectively apply your sights based on the given situation\, knowing when speed determines outcome.\nNear threat shooting techniques/ Shooting through the horizontal plane – getting the gun in the fight quickly\, engaging effectively and following through until the threat is neutralized.\nSpeed shooting – controlling the gun for fast\, accurate shooting.\nBattlespace awareness – being aware of your surroundings and maximizing what is available to you to influence your outcome.\nTarget discrimination – identifying and categorizing each individual while avoiding the unnecessary engagement of innocent people.\nThreat recognition – recognizing what time and opportunity are afforded you\, and applying the proper technique at the appropriate time to overcome the threat.\nMultiple threat engagement – transitioning your sights\, cover and body position based on speed\, opportunity and positioning of your threat(s).\nProblem solving – identify\, prioritize\, react\, and assess.\nIntroduction to proper use of cover and alternate shooting positions – when given time and opportunity\, finding cover and positioning yourself to maximize your cover while creating a stable\, effective shooting platform.\n\nCost: $225.00 \nParticipants: 10 Students Ages 21 and Up \nDuration: 8 hours – Two (2) 4-hour sessions broken out over one (1) week \nAmmunition Requirements: 300 rounds \nRequired Gear: Pistol\, holster\, belt\, eye protection\, and ear protection. \nHandguns and eye/ear protection are available for rent at SEG. Our certified instructors will cover safe firearms handling procedures\, general shotgun knowledge\, the fundamentals of marksmanship\, as well as the proper care and storage of firearms.
